While visiting a friend this weekend, I noticed her Valentine wreath on the front door. When I asked her where she got it, I was shocked to hear that she and her 5 year old daughter made it with just a few supplies they had on hand.
I saw it from far away and couldn’t tell it was made of paper but she texted this picture from her iphone.
While the kids were out of school and I was off work Monday, we decided to make our own version usually only materials we had: wrapping paper, ribbon, hole punch, scissors and crumpled grocery bags.
It was so surprisingly warm on Monday, we made this an outside project.
First, cut out a large heart and use it as a template to cut out another of the same size. I used wrapping paper I had on hand. My friend Kathy used plain white paper and painted it pink.
I used a hole punch to create holes so that I could weave the ribbon through. I also used clear tape at intervals to close the gaps. Kathy stapled hers together and painted on ribbon lacing.
Next, before completely finishing the ribbon, I stuffed the heart with crumpled plastic grocery bags.
After lacing all the ribbon, I tied extra ribbon to make a loop for hanging.
Voila! Free and Easy Valentine’s wreath. If you wanted something more permanent, this would be just as easy with burlap or felt.
